The Downstream Wells Activity will provide an opportunity to establish a new groundwater wellfields to meet the growing urban water demand without affecting the environment for the long term and a sustainable manner. 

• Development of new groundwater wellfields near the Biokombinat and Shuwuun area;
• Construction of 30 groundwater wells, pump-houses and 55 km water transmission pipelines (from wells to AWPP, from AWPP to central water distribution network);
• Construction of an Advanced Water Purification Plant (AWPP) to treat water from new wellfields to Drinking water standard.

The Project is expected to supply up to 50 million cubic meters of additional water to Ulaanbaatar's central network, allowing for the city’s future expansion, as outlined in the capital city's master plan, and will create a favorable environment for decentralization.
