
Ulaanbaatar city, September 22, 2022 – H.E Michael S.Klecheski, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Mongolia, paid a visit to the Millennium Challenge Account – Mongolia’s office before ending his tenure of service and departure to the United States.
MCA-Mongolia team warmly welcomed H.E Ambassador and extended gratitude for his strong support in every step of the implementation of the MCC-Mongolia Water Compact, which aims to increase bulk water supply in Ulaanbaatar with the funding of $350m in MCC grant and the $111.78m contribution from the Government of Mongolia.


During the meeting, MCA-Mongolia Interim CEO D.Enkhjargal expressed her pride in H.E Ambassador’s contribution, support and assistance to MCA-Mongolia to implement $461,8m climate-smart investment to make UB city climate resilient and sustainable with a safe and secure water supply and pledged that MCA-Mongolia team will continue working hard to successfully implement the Compact Program.

This $462 million project is a partnership between the American and Mongolian people made possible by $350m in MCC grant funding and the $111.76m contribution from the Government of Mongolia which demonstrates their commitment to working together to achieve economic growth and poverty reduction in Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolia Water Compact is funding major infrastructure projects, including the construction of new wellfields and two large plants - an Advanced Water Purification Plant and Wastewater Recycling Plant which will be the first of their kind in Mongolia. In addition, the Compact will invest in policy measures to create a financially and environmentally sustainable future for the water sector of Ulaanbaatar. By 2026, the water system in Ulaanbaatar will have been expanded to deliver 80% more drinking water, allowing for the city’s future expansion.
