
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, July 25, 2022 – Millennium Challenge Account – Mongolia announced that Mrs. Enkhjargal Danzalbaljir has been appointed as the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the MCA-Mongolia, with the strict responsibility for leading MCA-Mongolia in external facing engagement, particularly engaging with the Government of Mongolia to achieve objectives of the Compact Agreement, which was ratified by the Parliament of Mongolia on January 31, 2019, building and maintaining strong working relationships with stakeholders, implementing entities, the MCA-Mongolia Board, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). Mrs. D. Enkhjargal succeeds and assumes the responsibilities on July 25, 2022, until the permanent CEO of the MCA-Mongolia is hired.
Mrs. D. Enkhjargal is specialized in banking, finance and economics and graduated from the National Academy of Economy (current name is Baikal State University) in Russia with a Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance and Vanderbilt University in the USA with a Master’s degree in Economic Development, and completed management and women leadership programs at universities in EU, UK, Japan and the USA.
Mrs. D. Enkhjargal has broad experience in working in a range of leadership roles for the Central Bank of Mongolia (the Bank of Mongolia), government authorities, and multinational financial institutions, including 36 – years of experience in the banking and financial sector as the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Mongolia, Chief Representative of the Bank of Mongolia in London, Director of the Supervision Department, Chief Economist of the Monetary Policy Department, and Consultant and Senior Financial Advisor to the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Financial Councilor at the Embassy of Mongolia in the UK, and Director for Mongolia of the Board of Directors at the International Investment Bank.
She is a Founder and Honorary President of the Association for Development of Mongolian Women in Europe, President of the Women in Banking & Finance and “the Global Mongolian Women Together” NGO, and Advisor to the British – Mongolian Chamber of Commerce.

This $462 million project is a partnership between the American and Mongolian people made possible by $350m in MCC grant funding and the $111.78m contribution from the Government of Mongolia which demonstrates their commitment to working together to achieve economic growth and poverty reduction in Ulaanbaatar. The Mongolia Water Compact is funding major infrastructure projects, including the construction of new wellfields and two large plants - an Advanced Water Purification Plant and Wastewater Recycling Plant which will be the first of their kind in Mongolia. In addition, the Compact will invest in policy measures to create a financially and environmentally sustainable future for the water sector of Ulaanbaatar. By 2026, the water system in Ulaanbaatar will have been expanded to deliver 80% more drinking water, allowing for the city’s future expansion.
